Woman rescued by JFD after being trapped in car

JACKSON, Tenn.– Family members of the woman who survived a car crash are calling it an Easter miracle. They say they are thankful she’s still alive.

“It’s a blessing in itself,” said John James. “Could have been a lot worse but thanks to God it wasn’t.”

Screen Shot 2016-03-27 at 9.17.29 PMA little before 6 p.m.  Easter Sunday, Jackson Police were dispatched to a car crash along the Hwy. 45 Bypass. The driver veered off the road and crashed into a utility pole. Members of the Jackson Fire Department were called in to cut the driver from the car.

“When I pulled up and seen all the lights and stuff I said, ‘Oh my God’ it’s bad,” said James. “But then when I saw the car the way its drooped around that pole, I said oh boy.”

The victim’s uncle John James said his family was together for Easter dinner when they got a call about his niece who was home from college at Murray State.

“We were out to her grandmother’s house, we were all just sitting around talking,” said James. “We got the phone call she had a bad wreck.”

According to Jackson Police, the driver said she was trying to avoid an 18-wheeler when she ran off the road.

The fire department used saws to remove the car doors. Although the car is totaled, rescuers were able to get the driver out. She was taken by ambulance but is expected to fully recover.

“It’s a blessing to the Lord that shes alive,” said James. “I seen her hands and things moving. She looks like she’ll be alright.”

JEA utility workers were on the scene since power lines were connected to the metal pole.

Workers said had the driver hit one of the wood utility poles, that pole would have most likely fallen down and there would knocked out power.

Jackson Police said due to the rainy conditions,  slick road conditions may have been a factor.
