Rivalry week kicks off for Jackson Christian soccer
JACKSON, Tenn — Just a handful of matches into the season, the Jackson Christian Eagles are preparing for one of the biggest weeks of the year.
For the second-straight season the Eagles will take on their three rivals: Trinity Christian, Sacred Heart and USJ all in one week.
Coaches and players said getting to play these teams so close together makes it a special and intense few days.
“If you have the opportunity to put 3 high quality cross-town rival games in the same week, of course that draws attention to your program,” Jackson Christian head soccer coach, Jeff Lean said. “The excitement that it generates for our program and the interest that it creates in our soccer program is really, really exciting for our soccer program.”
“We all know what this means, especially tomorrow. We all want to make a state run really bad. The girls have been doing it for a few years now and it’s time for the guys,” Jackson Christian senior defender, Christopher Clifton explained.
Coach Lean said each game for rivalry week drew around 600 people last season.
Jackson Christian and Trinity Christian kick off Tuesday afternoon at 5:00 at Trinity.
