3 suspects arrested after leading police on chase
JACKSON, Tenn. — A police case through the streets of midtown Jackson puts a neighborhood on edge, Tuesday afternoon. The pursuit ended with three people behind bars, including a suspect in an attempted murder, several guns and drugs were also seized.
What started as a simple traffic stop quickly turned into a multi-agency manhunt through a number of neighborhoods.
“They came out of the wood work with their guns out and stuff,” Angela Bowers said. “Then they told us to get in the house.”
Jackson Police and U.S. Marshals could be seen combing backyards throughout midtown Jackson.
“I didn’t know whether to run or to hide,” Bowers said. “It was nerve-racking.”
It all stemmed from a traffic stop, Tuesday afternoon where police said they attempted to serve a warrant but minutes later their suspects sped off, leading them on a chase from Hollywood Drive to West Forest Ave.
“Up the street and down the street,” Bowers said. “It’s just sad and it’s scary.”
Officers said the three suspects then fled on foot after getting to nearby apartments. Each one was tracked down and arrested within 15 minutes.
“They need to bulldoze those apartments down for one thing,” Bowers said. “There’s a lot of activity going on there.”
Those who witnessed the chase and search said they see more and more crime coming into their community.
“I’m sort of scared even to come outside sometimes,” Bowers said. “I shouldn’t feel like that but that’s just how it is.”
Officers said their main suspect in all of this is a juvenile and was wanted on attempted murder charges. According to the Jackson Police Chief Julian Wiser, the two other men were not facing any charges until Tuesday.
