Temporary school employee arrested, charged with statutory rape of student

yelvertonHENDERSON, Tenn.,–A temporary school employee is arrested at Chester County high school, after police said she had a sexual relationship with a student.

The Chester County School District said until Wednesday Ashley Yelverton, 30, worked as a substitute cafeteria employee at the county high school.

Investigators said Yelverton was questioned at the school about her alleged relationship with a 16-year-old student.

According to the police report, she gave a written statement and admitted to having sex with the juvenile six times at an apartment complex on White Avenue.

Yelverton invited the boy to spend the night with her on several occasions and had sex as recently as last week, the incident report states.

Director of schools, Troy Kilzer denied an on-camera interview but did tell WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News Yelverton will no longer work in the school system.

He said she had to pass an FBI background check prior to being hired and there were no red flags in her application.

Investigators said they believe the relationship had been going on for about 6 weeks.

Yelverton is being held in lieu of a $25,000 bond.
