Mississippi state representative paying for kicking in door
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – A Mississippi lawmaker is paying for kicking in the bottom section of a mahogany door at the state Capitol.
Democratic Rep. Jarvis Dortch of Raymond says he gave a $2,474 check to the House Management Committee on Wednesday to fully pay for the damage.
Dortch said Thursday that he kicked the door out of frustration during partisan gridlock in February- and he says that was a mistake.
The door is being repaired. It hangs in a bathroom next to the House chamber.
Speaker Pro Tempore Greg Snowden says the door was expensive and the situation was an “unfortunate incident” that’s now resolved.
Republican Snowden, who chairs the Management Committee, says it’s good that taxpayers didn’t have to cover the repair.
