Mayor hopeful deconstruction on Bemis Mill will resume soon
JACKSON, Tenn.- After numerous calls about trouble with the demolition of the Bemis Mill,
WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News decided to do a little digging.
According to the mayor’s office, the deconstruction was halted over the past few weeks because a contractor walked off the job.
They said DG Construction brought in an outside firm to dismantle and re-sell the bricks from the mill.
Although the construction company did not answer our multiple phone calls for comment, the mayor said they are hopeful the demolition will continue soon.
“We’re gonna turn up the heat and make sure he does what he’s supposed to do. He has not been in communication with the company that simply did not finish the job,” said Jackson Mayor Jerry Gist.
The mayor said they currently do not have a timeline on when the demolition will be finished. However, he is hoping for late this summer
so construction on the Memorial Park can begin in the fall.
