Rash of Burglaries Hit Brownsville

BROWNSVILLE, Tenn- More than a dozen car burglaries in less than a week in Haywood County have investigators looking for the thief. According to police, more than 14 people have reported items stolen from their cars, all in the same neighborhood near the Historic District in Brownsville. Some of the items have included Ipods, sunglasses, and even gardening tools. “They’re quiet neighborhoods with not a lot of activity going on,” said Investigator Chuck Willis, of the Brownsville Police Department. According to Willis, besides location all of the victims had something else in common. Their vehicle doors were left unlocked. “They’ve been going around vehicles, finding them unlocked and valuables in them,” said Investigator Willis. Ernest Wood, a Brownsville resident said his gardening tools were stolen out of his van, causing him to take extra precautions. “I’ve been locking my doors,” said Wood. “And I’m watching out for them and telling others to watch out.” Police are asking anyone with information to contact the Brownsville Police Department at (731) 772-1215 or Haywood County Crime Stoppers at (731) 772-2274.
