‘Go Red for Women’ event raises awareness to living heart-healthy life

JACKSON, Tenn.-It was a packed house Tuesday night at the Jackson Civic Center, all to raise awareness of a disease that affects millions of women in the U.S. each year.

The “Go Red for Women” movement aims to bring attention to the threat of heart disease, all while creating a call to action for all women to commit to living a heart-healthy lifestyle.

“This is killing more women than all forms of cancers combined. We’re losing one woman, every minute of every day, so I hope when they leave, they will want to do something to change their life… make better lifestyle choices,” said Christy Futrell, regional director of the American Heart Association.

The American Heart Association said as many as 80 percent of cardiac and stroke events can be prevented with education and lifestyle changes.
