JACKSON, Tenn.- Residents in north Jackson are upset claiming a home damaged in a fire more than three years ago has not been repaired, and is now home to wild animals. Randy Seymore told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News opossums and raccoons are just some of the animals he sees going inside the damaged home next to his. “I mean, we can lay here at night and hear the opossums and stuff walking across our roof to get over there,” said Seymore. Other neighbors said they are scared to let their own pets outside in fear of the critters next door. The city of Jackson’s Coordinator of Housing Codes, Gary Hardee, said the owner of the home has been in talks with insurance for years, but has not repaired the home. Hardee told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News the city’s attorney has been contacted and they plan on taking legal action. “I’ve been told that every time I’ve called for two years,” said Seymore. Hardee also said the property did not need to be torn down, just repaired on the inside. “It could be rebuilt. It could be refinished. That would be fine, it just need to be done,” said Seymore. Hardee did not tell us when the city plans on taking legal action.
