Students Honored at “Do the Write Thing” Banquet

JACKSON, Tenn.- The school year is coming to a close but not before some West Tennessee middle schoolers were recognized for doing the right thing. This year, 469 middle school students in the Jackson-Madison County School System submitted writings on ways violence impacts their lives in the “Do the Write Thing” competition. The goal is to help the students recognize the causes of youth violence and make a commitment to doing something about the problem. “We found that in a democratic culture where we listen to our youth the problems of bullying and youth violence are less prevalant,” said Ernest Brooks, II with “Do the Write Thing.” The two students that submit the most responsive writings will be selected to attend the do the write thing challenge in July in Washington, D.C.
