Honor Guard members explain symbolic folding of American flag
JACKSON, Tenn. — A meeting in north Jackson came with a special moment of remembrance Wednesday as members of the Vietnam Honor Guard took time to explain a special military tradition.
During a meeting of the Jackson Rotary Club, veterans explained to guests each step of the folding of the flag and how each of the 13 folds represents a side of the faith and devotion that makes up American service.
“It goes back to basics, and that’s what we need at this time in our society is to get back to basics of where we’re all friends and it’s all about helping each other,” said Bennie Denton with the Veterans Honor Guard.
Fought more than four decades ago, the Vietnam War lasted nearly 20 years and brought more than 500,000 American men and women to serve.
