JPD search for suspects after afternoon shooting
JACKSON, Tenn. — More than a dozen shots rang out in an East Jackson neighborhood Wednesday afternoon, leaving residents fed up with violence in their community.
No one was injured but those shots narrowly missed homes right in their path.
“I hit the floor,” Dewarnia Fuller said. “I already know what gun shots sound like because I hear them so much.”
Residents said it was like being in the middle of a fire fight.
“It was just pow pow pow pow pow,” Fuller said. “We hit the floor and I just started praying.”
Jackson Police said a suspect shot 16 rounds at a car driving along Hardee Street. Investigators could be seen picking up shell casings that littered the street.
“12 shell casings were right here surrounding my house,” Fuller said.
For Fuller, who’s lived here 20 years, Wednesday’s shooting makes her want to move.
“One of those bullets could have came in the house and struck me, my niece, or my fiancé,” Fuller said. “We were just watching TV while all this was going on.”
Fuller said this type of violence has crept into her neighborhood over the past few years.
“They really need to find god and put the guns down and pick up the jobs,” Fuller said. “It’s just senseless out here.”
Officers could be seen searching the area for their shooting suspects but they weren’t found.
“The police can’t do it by themselves, so if you see something you need to say something,” Fuller said. “Because next time it could be your house and not mine.”
Jackson Police said they’re currently looking for two black men who were last seen driving away from the area in a burgundy Chevy Impala with Tennessee drive out tags.
