Fulton encouraging citizens to pay utility bills

FULTON, Miss. (AP) – Fulton officials are encouraging people to pay any delinquent utility bills before their names are turned over to a collection agency.

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports that the city is expected to sign a contract with collection agency American Municipal Services on Tuesday and will collect unpaid gas and water bills dating back to 1994.

Mayor Lynette Weatherford is encouraging customers to pay their bills at city hall before they’re contacted by the collection agency. He added that it would be cheaper to pay the city directly because the company is expected to tack its own fees on to the ones customers already owe.

The list of unpaid bills features more than 900 names of individuals and businesses.
