Car show, concert among weekend events to benefit charities
JACKSON, Tenn. — A few events start Friday afternoon around the Hub City all to raise money for charities.
The inaugural Jacob Barker Musicfest will be rocking out for a cure Friday and Saturday afternoon at the AMP in downtown Jackson.
“We’ll have 20 bands, over 20 bands, over two days,” Ronnie Barker said. “Most of them have roots in Jackson. All of them have roots from around West Tennessee.”
The Musicfest is meant to raise money for St. Jude and is being hosted by Jacob Barker’s family.
“We’ll have jumpers for the kids, face painting. It’s a family friendly event,” Barker said. “I want everybody to come out and enjoy it. We’re going to have a great time.”
The music fest will be free and open to the public starting at 4 o’clock on Friday. They are asking for donations and hoping to raise at least $5,000.
“Miss Tennessee will be there. She’s going to have a booth that she’ll set up. There’s just going to be a lot to do,” Barker said.
Also this weekend is the 24th annual Bunny Run Car Show at the Jackson fairgrounds. Tickets are $5 for adults and free for children younger than 12. The money is also donated to charity and starts at 10 a.m. Friday.
There will be door prizes and a drawing for visitors as well as awards for those who bring their rides to show off.
“We do the top 15 cars and then we have specialty awards for cars that are painted and interior and that type of stuff,” said Dan Jackson, president of the Jackson Rod and Customs club.
In the past, they’ve had as many as 500 cars and say they are excited to see what this year brings.
