Jackson, MS: No lead in city’s water distribution system

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – The city of Jackson has confirmed that water samples taken from the city’s distribution system tested below the detection limit for lead.

Questions about the presence of lead within the city’s system arose after the city discovered an unacceptable amount of lead in drinking water over two months ago.

The Clarion-Ledger reports that the city announced on Friday that recent test results confirmed the city’s belief that “the lead exceedance is due to home plumbing and/or the presence of lead service lines.”

The city tested 15 drinking water samples from elevated storage tanks within the distribution system.

The detection limit for lead is one-half part per billion.
