“And it’s very great and very exciting,” said elder Douglas Ward. “I’m just glad to be a part of this ministry.”

Bishop Brandon Porter, who also serves as the prelate for the Tennessee Central Jurisdiction, says he’s honored to teach at a church with deep roots in the community.

“This church is a church of longevity, history and foundation,” said Bishop Brandon B. Porter. “Those are wonderful principles that ministries are built on. They know exactly what they are doing and God has done some wonderful things, not only in the church but in this community through the ministry.”

When asked how the church has been able to withstand the test of time, church members say simple faith is the key.

“Our theme is, we come this far by faith. So it’s God that brought us this far.” said Ward.

Rita Henning-Collins is a long-time church member. “And truly we have come this far by faith, and we’re glad about it,” said Henning-Collins. “We’re here to celebrate. We’re here to raise some money.”

Each year the church anniversary program also serves a fundraiser.

Church leaders say paying off their family life enrichment building is important because it serves the community outside of Sunday services.

“The goal of today is to celebrate the history of the church as a whole how we come this far,” said Ward. “Back through the years and through the history this church is yet standing. So we’re blessed.”

The Community Church opened its  family life enrichment building in 2009 and are hopeful they will have it paid off in the near future.
