Inmate set to be released in 2 weeks dies in jail
MAGNOLIA, Miss. (AP) – A 64-year-old Pike County inmate has died, two weeks before he was scheduled for release.
Chief Deputy Gregory Martin tells The Clarion-Ledger that other inmates told jailers that David Moak was having trouble breathing Friday.
He says deputies performed CPR and an ambulance took Moak to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Martin says Moak had respiratory problems and used an inhaler. He says he doesn’t know whether Moak had an inhaler in his cell.
Martin was scheduled for release April 29, after serving a six-month sentence for telephone harassment.
Martin says he doesn’t not know how many inmates shared the cell.
His death is under investigation.
