McNairy Co. woman charged with TennCare fraud involving doctor shopping
McNAIRY COUNTY, Tenn. — An Adamsville woman is facing a TennCare fraud charge on accusations of doctor shopping to obtain controlled substances.
Barbara Alexander, 52, is charged with two counts of fraudulently obtaining the painkillers Oxycodone and morphine by doctor shopping for multiple prescriptions and using TennCare as payment, according to a release from the Office of Inspector General.
TennCare fraud is a Class E felony carrying a sentence of up to two years in prison per charge, according to the release.
“People who are going from doctor to doctor to obtain painkillers are committing a serious crime, regardless if the intention is personal abuse or selling drugs to others,” Inspector General Manny Tyndall states in the release.
