Hikers discover body floating in Tenn. River near Big Sandy
BENTON COUNTY, Tenn. — Officials recovered a body from the Tennessee River on Wednesday after it was spotted by hikers.
The Benton County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report around 3 p.m. Wednesday to Granny’s Branch Road north of Big Sandy, according to Sheriff Kenny Christopher.
When deputies arrived on scene, they worked with the TWRA and Benton County Rescue Squad to get the body out of the water.
The body was later identified as a man from Big Sandy. His name has not yet been released.
Deputies say as of right now there is no sign of foul play, but the body was sent to Nashville for an autopsy. The investigation is ongoing.
