Trenton residents kick off 36th annual Teapot Festival
TRENTON, Tenn. — The teapot takeover has officially started in Trenton. Sunday Trenton kicked off its 36th Annual Teapot festival.
“Oh this was an exciting day,” said opening ceremony coordinator Betty Poteet. “We had some great singing and everyone turned out and it was just wonderful..”
Sunday hundreds gathered in Pedestrian Park for the Trenton Teapot Festival opening ceremony. This years theme is ‘Honoring Our Tea-riffic Blue & Red.’
“We are honoring our police and fire,” said Trenton Mayor Ricky Jackson. “We are honoring the men in red and blue. They are deserving, and our community wanted to pay respects to them so that’s what we’re doing.”
The local police and firemen will serve as grand marshals in the annual parade Saturday.
“We don’t have the crime that the large cities have,” said resident Myra Elam. “We can rest assure that we’re safe with our police officers and if some thing happens to our home, our firefighters are right there on the spot.”
Festival banners are up along College St. and teapot yard signs all over Trenton. Some with catchy phrases, creative designs and others blend right in with the garden. Awards for the sign competition were handed out during the kick off celebration.
“Well the highlight for me this year personally is because I won best in theme for the teapot competition,” said Elam.
Although the teapots are the focus of the week, Mayor Jackson says its a great time to showcase the Trenton community.
“I think people look forward to it every year because there’s excitement everyday and every night this week,” said Poteet. “It’s something for everybody young and old an all.t’s just a wonderful week for people to get together and tell how proud we are of Trenton.”
“This is the place to be. All roads lead to Trenton,” Elam said.
Monday is the first full day of Teapot Festival events.
