FBI visits West Tennessee campus to host academy
JACKSON, Tenn. — A local college invited special guest to their campus.
On Tuesday, the FBI held its second collegiate academy in the state of Tennessee at Lane College.
The day started at 8:30 a.m. with arrival and student check-in. Students learned the history, mission, and programs in an FBI overview.
It was followed by a Evidence Response Team presentation.
“When my professor told me to do it, I was like, I’m not sure about it because I’m Mass Comm. I don’t know any departments, like you know, the FBI has for me. But sitting there listening to them, it’s a good opportunity, good internships. Get your face in the door, get your feet in the door, different things like that,” said Laila Quarles, a sophomore at Lane College.
“We feel it’s important here at the FBI to reflect our communities, and we need to hire and recruit more minorities and women in the profession of law enforcement,” said Douglas Depodesta, the acting Special Agent of the FBI Memphis Field Office.
The FBI is hoping to do more collegiate academy collaborations with historically Black colleges and universities.
