Balloon release honors WRAP as Sexual Assault Awareness Month ends
BROWNSVILLE, Tenn. — Organizers held a balloon release Wednesday afternoon to honor the work Wo/Men’s Resource & Rape Assistance Program does for victims of domestic and sexual abuse.
The tribute kicked off as Sexual Assault Awareness Month comes to an end. Even though April may be ending, participants tell us it’s never too late to speak up and save a life.
“Making the first step to get out of the situation makes you strong,” sexual assault survivor Necora Dyson said. “And once you do that and believe in yourself, doors will open for you, and you have people everywhere with their arms open ready to receive you and love you for who you are. Don’t feel ashamed.”
Both Jackson city and Madison County mayors signed a proclamation Wednesday making the April awareness month official in West Tennessee.
