Medicare Expansion Discussed in Ripley

RIPLEY, Tenn.- A West Tennessee state senator and state representative received input from area residents and medical personnel concerning medicaid. Senator Lowe Finney and State Representative Craig Fitzhugh hosted the roundtable discussion with residents and other hospital leaders from Haywood, Dyer and Lauderdale Counties in Ripley, Tuesday. Medical leaders said the lack of a plan on what will happen in Tennessee is causing them concern and could lead to problems for small hospitals if the governor does not come up with a plan. “Today it’s not killing us, but down the road in a year or two it could potentially have a pretty devastating effect if these people don’t any kind of coverage,” said Scott Tongate,CEO, of Lauderdale Community Hospital. Hospital leaders said they hope to find out the governor’s plan soon so they can plan for the future and possibly avoid cuts.
