DYER, Tenn.-A duck joins players on the links at a Gibson County golf course. When Norman Robinson calls, the duck comes. “He’s the most people friendly duck I’ve ever seen,” he said. Robinson owns Pinecrest Golf Course, but hole number 9 belongs to Bunkers the Duck. “We want people to come and enjoy the place, but don’t hit the duck,” said Robinson. Bunkers moved in last year. He started playing golf several months ago. “He pushes the ball with his beak,” said Robinson. “His head is down and he goes just as fast as he can waddle.” The golfers know Bunkers. “We always throw just an old ball down and he’ll take it,” said Larry Quinn, a golfer. “He’ll run with it 50-60 yards sometimes.” But, it can be a love hate relationship. “I think it’s pretty unique until you’ve got a bet on the game and he gets up on number nine tee and steals your ball,” said Bob McAlexander, a golfer. Bunkers is talented and accurate. “I’ve played on courses all over the country that have alligators and turtles and geese, but I don’t believe I’ve ever encountered a duck like that before,” said McAlexander. Bunkers never misses the ball. “He pushes a golf ball pretty well,” said Robinson. “I’m afraid he’s gonna wear his beak out.” Bunkers has a lady friend who also lives on the 9th hole, but she has not quite mastered the game yet.
