JC Eagles Spring Ball For Newcomers
JACKSON, Tenn — The Jackson Christian Eagles started their spring practices today, despite only having 20 players participating due to involvement in spring sports.
This is the first time head coach Todd Roland has taken this approach, but says it’s a valuable learning tool for his incoming players.
“Our goal in spring ball is really just to get our eigth graders up into the program and used to our terminology. You saw us, in there stopping and saying do you understand what we’re saying and them shaking their heads because their eigth graders,” Roland said.
The team doesn’t have many upperclassmen but have a deep sophomore class, and a very young up and coming seventh grade class. Roland believes the future will be bright for the Eagles.
“We’re turning the right direction. I think we’ve got a good core of kids who are willing to work hard. Football now-a-days, you have to find a kid who’s willing to work all summer. It’s the only sport that asks kids to do that, you know the other kids in other sports come in for a week or two weeks. But we’re asking kids to come in and work hard all summer,” said Roland.
Coming off a four win season last year and making the playoffs, coach said he’s looking forward to see what his team has in store for the future.
