Woman indicted in Jackson’s first homicide of 2016

JACKSON, Tenn. — A woman was indicted this week in the city of Jackson’s first homicide of the year.

Norma BarnettCourt documents show the Madison County grand jury indicted Norma Barnett this week on counts of second-degree murder and tampering with evidence.

She’ll now stand trial in the Jan. 3 stabbing death of 62-year-old Melvin Bond inside his apartment at McMillan Towers. Investigators say she used a kitchen knife.

Barnett will be formally arraigned May 9.
