240 Chattanooga residents displaced by fire
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) – More than 200 residents evacuated from a Chattanooga apartment building after an electrical fire could be out for several days while crews work to restore power to the building.
Firefighters evacuated 240 residents from Patten Tower on Tuesday night. The Chattanooga Times Free Press reports the residents initially went to emergency shelters set up by the Salvation Army and American Red Cross, but many have since been able to find temporary housing with family members.
The Red Cross’ Sandy Matheson said there were a lot of evacuees who are on oxygen and need wheelchairs. The agency is working with home health care providers to make sure they have a support system in place.
