Jackson General boasts cutting-edge stroke treatment technology
JACKSON, Tenn. — Jackson-Madison County General Hospital has hit a major milestone as new technology is giving stroke victims a better chance of a successful recovery.
The hospital is the first in West Tennessee to offer the Penumbra 5 system, considered the most advanced stroke treatment technology.
Doctors say the new technique allows them to restore blood flow to the brain, improving patient mobility and independence.
“We’ve had a great success here at Jackson-General,” radiologist Dr. Matthew Graham said. “Patients are either completely cured or they’re doing a lot better than they would otherwise.”
The new stroke treatment technology is only available in about half of advanced stroke centers across the U.S.
Doctors say stroke is the No. 1 cause of long-term disability in adults.
