Juvenile Court Summer Teen Work Program Underway

JACKSON, Tenn. – Over the summer students will work 30 hours each week and gain not only money in their pocket but life skills that will benefit them for the rest of their life. Local businesses said they are excited for the students from the ‘Youth Summer Work Project’ to return to work. David Falk is the director at the Jackson Train Depot and said he is short-staffed and with summer being his most active time of the year he will take all the help he can get. The students have been preparing all week learning how they can help these local businesses. “It feels great to know that It will benefit me so I can learn more,” said Favian Harris. Giving the students independence like learning how to ride public transportation to balancing a checkbook. The donations from the city and county allow students to work over the summer while gaining life long skills. “It teaches you how to manage and budget your money it also teaches you hot open a checking and saving account and what you should do and how to perform in a workplace and prepare for a future job,” said program liaison Antonineva McIntosh. The program that gives you a hands on learning experience that will help them through their journey in life. Jamarius Johnson is a first year student in the program and said he has all ready learned a lot. “I’m going to take these steps with me, I’m going to make a success out of it and continue on with it so when I get into the real world and get into a job I’m prepared with the things I learned from this program,” said Johnson.
