NORTH JACKSON — Thelma Barker Elementary School went above and beyond their fundraising goal by raising more than $3,100 for Relay For Life.

Thelma Barker challengeThe school celebrated Friday and took part in one of their original incentives — Principal Ryan Kirkbride had agreed to let students duct tape him up the flagpole during dismissal Friday afternoon.

“Absolutely proud, our principal especially, just extremely proud along with all the teachers to be able to go through what we’ve gone through within the last two weeks to be able to do this,” said PTO board member Jeff Wall.

While the hype around the challenge was fun, school administrators and teachers say they hope to instill a spirit of giving within their student body.
