Jackson business participates in Free Comic Book Day

JACKSON, Tenn. — A Jackson business participated Saturday in one of the most anticipated comic book celebrations of the year known as Free Comic Book Day.

Comic Book DayComics Universe has been catering to comics enthusiasts in Jackson for more than 20 years.  Comic fan Tyrone Tony Reed Jr. says, “It’s cool because people who haven’t been in comic books can come and get a free comic book. Those who are big fans of comic books or superheroes can come and get a free comic book.”

According to comic lovers at the shop, reading comics can be used to promote children’s literacy and can also be used as an avenue to escape from reality.Free Comic Book Day

Retailers all over the country observe the holiday the first Saturday in May. It first started in 2002 when a comic book retailer in California saw the success of comic-based movies and decided to expose moviegoers to the stories and illustrations that inspired the films.

The first Free Comic Book Day was held on the opening weekend of Spider-Man in 2002.
