Jackson man faces new burglary, theft charges

JACKSON, Tenn. — Authorities filed new charges Monday against a local man already accused of stealing from a furniture store in Jackson.

andrewkimAndrew Kim, 31, appeared in court again Monday for the second time in four days on new theft and burglary counts.

“There’s always another side to the story,” Mark Donahoe, Kim’s attorney, said.

Kim is accused of breaking into Outdoors Inc. on Vann Drive in January and stealing about $2,000 worth of merchandise. “It’s pretty unnerving at first, and then it just makes you mad,” Store Manager Edward Hazlehurst said.

Police said the thief got away with GoPro cameras, watches and cash. Hazlehurst said he is happy officers made an arrest. “I know it takes time to catch bad guys, but eventually they make a mistake and they get caught,” he said.

Investigators said they found new GoPro cameras still in the package inside Kim’s home with Outdoors Inc. labels on them.

“Whether he is involved in the burglaries or whether he got that from somewhere else or got it from somebody else, you know, at this point we don’t really know,” Donahoe said.

According to an affidavit, investigators said Kim admitted to breaking into Outdoors Inc. and stealing merchandise. “We’re just digging in,” Donahoe said. “It’s the beginning of the case.”

Hazlehurst said they installed a gate after the break-in. “This would make it much more difficult to come through,” he said.

Kim is scheduled to return to court May 19.

Kim is also charged with breaking into Coffman’s Home Furnishings in April and stealing about $6,000 worth of items. He is currently being held in lieu of a $50,000 bond and must surrender his passport.
