West TN high school band receives top honor
HUMBOLDT, Tenn.—A West Tennessee high school band receives a big award.
On Saturday, the South Gibson County High School band was presented the American School Band Directors Association Award of Distinction for receiving superior ratings in every category at this year’s concert band festival.
This is a feat that is very hard to accomplish. Only 17 bands in Tennessee received this award and only 6 in West Tennessee.
Many people were in attendance for support and to celebrate such a big accomplishment.
“First time in our school’s history that we have gotten it. Really it is a way to show that this band excels, not only during the marching season of football games and marching competitions, but throughout the year. These kids are achieving excellence in everything they do,” said Stephen Price, Band Director, South Gibson County High School.
Price would like to thank everyone for coming out to support the band, and says that words cannot express how proud he is of them.
