Students learn through ‘Adventures in the Kitchen’

JACKSON, Tenn. — Food and fun were on the menu Tuesday afternoon at the UT Extension Office in west Jackson.

IMG_1774UT Extension Agent Amy Elizer’s “Adventures in the Kitchen” class gave a group of Hub City kids the chance to learn how to can their own food. Tuesday’s lesson consisted of canning bread-and-butter pickles.

Elizer said she wants the kids to leave the class with more knowledge than of simply cooking.

“I hope they understand that there’s a connection between science and cooking, math and cooking, and so it’s a real learning opportunity for them besides just being able to make food that they enjoy,” Elizer said.

Elizer hosts the “Adventures in the Kitchen” classes periodically for small groups of both children and adults.
