Build your own basic disaster supplies kit

JACKSON, Tenn.–With the threat of severe weather, officials encourage building simple disaster supply kits.

Ready.gov has compiled a downloadable PDF checklist of recommended items to keep on hand in the event severe weather hits your area.

Items include:

• Battery-powered or hand crank radio and a NOAA Weather Radio with tone alert and extra batteries for both
• Flashlight and extra batteries
• First aid kit
• Whistle to signal for help
