Hundreds come to downtown Jackson for “Relay for Life”
JACKSON, Tenn.-Organizers said a crowd of close to a thousand has packed downtown Jackson Friday night for Madison County’s annual “Relay for Life”. The community came together to celebrate, remember and honor as part of Relay for Life.
To mark a new location, organizers cut a ribbon to kick off the festivities at the Farmer’s Market in downtown Jackson and throughout the night participants walked a loop with a constant flow of people as a show of support. Organizers said the night was all about is raising money to end cancer for good.
“When you gather with hundreds and even thousands on nights like this, with other people who have experienced similar things, you have someone in the battle with you,” said A.J. Massey, Relay for Life chairperson.
One of the most somber parts of the evening is the luminaria ceremony, where candles are lit inside bags in memory and in honor of those with cancer and participants walks around the track with lit candles.
