JACKSON Tenn.- Homes and cars were smashed under trees during Thursday’s storms in northeast Jackson. Residents said they were putting new shingles on the roof of their car port just seconds before it collapsed. “My husband was going to pull my car under the car port here but he looked out and saw the trees swirling instead of swaying. He said ‘Get in the house!’ we got in just seconds before the whole thing collapsed,” said Donna Threadgill. Other cars were also smashed under trees. Jackson-Madison County”s Emergency Management Agency said at least 10 homes in the area were hit with trees. Crews were out working all Friday morning and said the clean up would likely take a while. “A week or two probably, and homeowners will be battling it for quite a while after that. But, the major stuff should be done quickly,” said owner of Davis Brothers Tree Service, Brock Davis. Residents we spoke with all said they did have insurance. Southwest Electric was able to restore power to all the homes this afternoon.
