Tornado damages property in Tipton County
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado touched down in the western part of Tennessee.
Forecaster Zach May in Memphis said an EF-1 tornado with peak winds of 95 mph struck Tipton County at 6:05 a.m., Friday.
May said Friday night that the tornado touched down about 4 one space½ miles northwest of Covington. It caused major damage to two houses, destroyed a shop and downed trees.
Measuring 250 yards in width, the tornado was on the ground for about 4 minutes.
