Petal looks for room to grow with annexation

PETAL, Miss. (AP) – Petal officials hope to annex about 9 square miles, which they say will help the city better plan for its future.

The board of aldermen is expected to formally vote on the annexation at Tuesday’s regular meeting at City Hall.

The board passed an ordinance May 6 to start the process of adding territory to the Petal city limits.

Mayor Hal Marx tells The Hattiesburg American (http://hatne.ws/1rMBTXS) the city currently sits on about 16.8 square miles.

Once the formal plan to annex has been adopted, Marx said the next step will be to file the plans with chancery court, where the actual process will begin.
