2 Louisiana residents killed in Mississippi traffic accident

NATCHEZ, Miss. (AP) – Two Louisiana residents passing through Mississippi died in a one car accident.

Mississippi Highway Patrol troopers responded to the wreck on U.S. Highway 61 South of Natchez at 12:24 p.m. Sunday.

Adams County Coroner James Lee tells The Natchez Democrat the driver, 34-year-old Mika Peoples, of Calhoun, Louisiana, was ejected from the vehicle, which ran off the roadway and collided with a tree.

Lee says a passenger, 27-year-old Shana Leblanc, of Gonzales, Louisiana, was thrown into the back seat in the wreck.

Lee says Peoples was pronounced dead at the scene, while Leblanc was later pronounced dead at the Merit Health Natchez emergency room.

The wreck remains under investigation.
