Free Healthcare Offered to West Tennesseans

WEAKLEY COUNTY, Tenn.- Healthcare can be expensive, but one non-profit in Weakley County is helping families that cannot afford to go to the doctor. The Hope of Martin was awarded the “Innovative Readiness Training” grant from the Department of Defense. The grant means that hundreds of military physicians, nurses, dentists, and optometrists will be in Martin to offer free services. According to the Innovative Readiness Training website, the program offers “hands-on” training opportunities, while providing a direct and lasting benefit to the community. The non-profit hopes the program will help families like Florence Brooks, who has health insurance that does not cover dental or eye care. “With me being a single mom with a student in college, it’s rough to come up with extra money,” said Brooks. The program will be held from July 9-17, 2013, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Martin Middle School. The Hope of Martin said anyone and anyone can come to receive services, and there are no eligibility requirements. There will be over 300 healthcare providers at the event, so they expect that lines should not be too long. “It’s going to be a great deal and will impact a lot of lives I think,” said Brooks.
