Jackson City Council approves new $67 million budget
JACKSON, Tenn. — City Council members gathered Wednesday for a meeting to discuss a number of issues including next year’s budget and tax rate.
This was the first reading of the upcoming budget, which was unanimously approved. Officials say it’s largely a maintenance budget with no major increases or cuts planned.
The new $67 million budget allots for an increase in funding for the Jackson Fire Department but keeps other departments and the property tax rate the same.
“Our department heads do a great job of crafting their budgets to be as realistic as possible for the coming year, and so no really big red flags in the budget,” City Council member Scott Conger said.
The budget will be addressed again next month for an official approval.
