Man Accused of Trying to Run Over Deputy Pleads Guilty

JACKSON, Tenn. – A man accused of trying to run over a Madison County Sheriff‘s Deputy entered a guilty plea in Madison County Circuit Court, Monday. According to a news release, Grady Dewayne Carroll, 34, of Jackson, entered the guilty plea to charges of aggravated assault, possession of marijuana, possession of cocaine with intent to sell and deliver, possession of a firearm during a dangerous felony with a prior conviction (attempted second degree murder), driving on a revoked license and felony evading arrest. Carroll‘s sentencing hearing has been set for July 15, 2013. A news release stated that, on October 30, 2012, investigators with the Madison County Sheriff‘s and the United States Marshal‘s Service attempted to apprehend Carroll at the Fuel City located at 1321 East Chester Street on a felony warrant issued by the Jackson Police Department. Mr. Carroll then allegedly attempted to flee in a vehicle and struck and dragged an investigator in the process. One of the investigators shot Carroll during the incident and he was subsequently taken by helicopter to The Med in Memphis. The investigator with the sheriff‘s office suffered minor injuries in the incident and was treated and released from a local medical center.
