Documentary filmmakers visit Jackson for ‘Do the Write Thing’ program
JACKSON, Tenn. — Crews filming a documentary make a stop in Jackson highlighting the work of students who make it their mission to help kids just like them.
“Do the Write Thing” brings teachers, students and volunteers together to help stop youth violence.
About 10 of the programs, including Jackson’s, will make it into the documentary, which hopes to show the history and impact of the program.
“Over the about 9 years since the Jackson program started, it has consistently produced some of the best essays we’ve ever read,” said Joshua Callister with the National Campaign to Stop Violence. “The students here, their writings, their experiences have been insightful. They’ve been really inspiring for us reading them back out in Washington.”
Filmmakers hope to have that documentary done by the end of the summer.
