Area law enforcement kicks off ‘Click It Or Ticket’ campaign

JACKSON, Tenn. — Law enforcement from across West Tennessee came together Friday in Jackson announcing their latest campaign to reduce seat belt-related deaths in the state.

Click it or TicketMore than a dozen agencies made their way to the sheriff’s office honoring the start of “Click It or Ticket” and how important the campaign is during some of Tennessee’s busiest travel months.

Seat belt enforcement will increase from May 23 to June 5 with a special focus on Memorial Day weekend.

“We will be out there. We will be out there in force,” said Brenda Jones with the Governor’s Highway Safety Office. “We want you to be safe. We don’t want to have to knock on the door of one of your loved ones to report that you have lost your life because you did not wear a seat belt.”

This year marks the 30th year Tennessee has had active seat belt legislation.

Officials say last year through the first five months there were 320 traffic deaths. This year, there are already 354.
