OBION CO. Tenn.- A family in Obion County wants justice for their 5-year-old pet boxer, Abby. They believe she was killed at the hands of local police. Candice White said Abbey and her other pet boxer, Callie, escaped her fence Saturday afternoon. A neighbor called 911 claiming the dogs were acting aggressive. “It growled at my granddaughter,” said Wayne Dunn, who was worried the dogs would attack. “It tried to charge at my granddaughter.” Kenton police responded to the 911 call. Two neighbors said they witnessed the encounter between the dog and officer and give very differing accounts. “When he put his leg out to get out of the car, the dog grabbed him on his ankle,” said Dunn. “As soon as he got out and started walking towards the car port, I didn’t see the dog running. Abby walked up to him. The officer had the gun already in his hand, and when the dog got this close he just shot her,” said Gilda Hill, who says she has never seen Abby or Callie be dangerous. White says she got home minutes later. They found Abby in their neighbors backyard, but it was too late. “I felt really sad seeing her lay there, because the cop told me he shot her in the foot. I thought she would still be alive,” said Remington White, who got Abby after his father passed away. “It’s very hard to watch my child lay on his dog out here asking why this happened,” said White. White’s city court appearance on a leash law violation from this incident was rescheduled for next Monday. Kenton police would not comment on the shooting.
