Brownsville gets grants for economic development
HAYWOOD COUNTY, Tenn. — Brownsville was the first of 15 communities across the state Tuesday to receive a half-million-dollar grant for economic development.
The grant is the first step in developing “Advantage Park” where city leaders hope to eventually bring jobs to the area.
There are 300 acres that could be developed, but the next step will be up to developers to determine how much of the land will be used.
“Brownsville won because of a very competitive presentation that they made in Nashville to our committee about a month ago, so they earned this award,” said Randy Boyd, state commissioner of Economic and Community Development.
Brownsville also received an additional $85,000 to beautify its downtown area.
