Officials: Fisherman drowns after kayak overturns in lake

MORRISTOWN, Tenn. (AP) – Authorities say a 23-year-old kayaker drowned while fishing in a northeastern Tennessee lake.

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency News spokesman Matthew Cameron said in a news release that James B. Campbell of Talbott drowned Monday afternoon while fishing with a friend in a cove on Cherokee Lake at Panther Creek State Park.

Cameron says Campbell was not wearing a life jacket when his kayak overturned and he went overboard. Authorities recovered Campbell’s body later that evening.

Cameron says Campbell was the fourth drowning this year in Tennessee in which the victims were not wearing properly fitted life jackets.
