FHU Demolishes Bader Gymnasium

HENDERSON, Tenn. – Freed-Hardeman University has demolished one of its buildings to make way for significant campus improvements. Bader Gymnasium, which was first opened in 1963, was demolished by crews recently. The building was near the center of campus and the space was needed to allow for additional student activity areas for studying, outdoor devotionals, prayer and relaxation. The building served as home to the FHU Lions and Lady Lions until 1996 when the Brewer Sports Center was constructed. University officials stated that use of Bader significantly declined since the construction of the Brewer Sports Center in 1996. The campus offices that were still in Bader Gymnasium are being relocated to other places on the campus, and activities that were held in the gym will be held in the sports center and other locations in the fall. The demolition of Bader Gym is the first step of a 25 year campus master plan which is currently being developed. The school expects to unveil the plan before the end of this year.
