Dyersburg Police respond to a call of a woman shot

DYERSBURG, Tenn. —  Dyersburg Police responded to a call Wednesday of a domestic disturbance that involved a woman being shot.

Michael CopelandOfficers arrived on the scene at a residence in the 100 block of Ross Avenue at about 8:45 p.m. and located the woman who had been shot, according to a press release. The victim was removed from the scene and treated for her injuries at a nearby hospital. according to officials. The victim’s name has not been released.

The release states the suspect was not in the house but was later found by officers walking in the area of Troy Avenue and McGaughey Street where he was taken into custody without incident.

The suspect was identified as Michael Copeland, 42, and was transported to the Dyer County Law Enforcement Center, according to officials.

Officials say Copeland is being held on charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault, felon in possession of a firearm and interference with an emergency call.

Copeland will make his first court appearance in Dyersburg City Court on Friday, May 27 at 9 a.m.
